Dear Buteyko Breathers,
I hope your summer was marked by easy breathing that supports health and longevity. If not, I have an invitation for you.
Yesterday, I received some unexpected news: a couple had to cancel their reservation for my October hot springs retreat, so two places have opened up.
This Joyful Journey to Health retreat will focus on practice and deep restoration. Each morning, we’ll spend about two hours in the healing waters practicing Buteyko breathing while welcoming the bright Colorado sun. Each evening, we’ll gather for another session beneath the star-filled sky. Our days will also include yoga, walks, and meditation – all in Buteyko style. No hyperventilation allowed!
Because this is a small, boutique retreat, I will have plenty of time for your questions and can offer personal guidance on your breathing and Buteyko practice. Several other Buteyko specialists will join us, and I look forward to the deep, meaningful conversations we’ll share.
We will also have afternoons to nap, read, or simply enjoy profound silence. This retreat is designed to create deep relaxation, the essence of the Buteyko method. Dr. Buteyko stated that tension and stress reduce the level of CO₂ (our chi, our prana) in our lungs, while relaxation naturally increases it. Relaxation becomes many times more effective when combined with breathing exercises or movement—and we’ll explore these combinations throughout the retreat.
P.S. This may be my last Colorado retreat, as I’m considering moving to the East Coast next year. If you’ve been thinking of joining me, this is your opportunity.
And a couple more updates:
Registration for the BreathMastery Community is now open, and the next program begins in early October. We’ll continue practicing Buteyko breathing, discussing your questions, and sharing our experiences of making the method part of everyday life. I’m looking forward to seeing familiar faces, welcoming new members, and hearing how you (and your breathing) have been doing.
This summer, I created the Living Buteyko Book Circle, inviting readers to support my book and follow its creation through excerpts and updates. To everyone who has joined or sent words of encouragement: thank you. Your support has helped give me the time to write, and I am deeply grateful. I hoped three summer months would be enough to finish the manuscript, but the book has become deeper and more complex than I expected. My recent interviews in Moscow with people who knew Dr. Buteyko personally—including doctors who worked alongside him—have brought more stories and insights to share. I am also a slow writer, and I cannot leave a paragraph until it no longer feels foreign to my heart. I’m extending the Book Circle and would love for you to continue with me—or join us for the first time. I’ll keep sharing new excerpts and, as I transcribe them, the interviews from Moscow. It means a great deal to have you beside me as I give this book the time and care it needs.
Warmly,
Sasha Yakovleva
