I want everyone who joins the supportive circle around my book to know what to expect.
What I am writing is not a lesson book or an academic book that lists and analyzes every lecture, manuscript, or statement by Dr. Buteyko. As a former journalist, I do not feel called to write that kind of book. It feels too dry to me, and I do not want my readers to be bored, even if the information itself is useful.
This is a Living Breathing Buteyko Book.
And at its heart, it is also a love story.
Let me explain why.
I first discovered the
Buteyko Method early in my marriage to
Thomas Fredriksen. During our honeymoon, he developed severe
asthma that later became life-threatening. Thankfully, the Buteyko Method gave him ten more years of life.
This book also carries the love between Konstantin Buteyko and
Ludmila Buteyko, along with her son,
Andrey Novozhilov, who became Dr. Buteyko’s medical heir. Together, they formed a family in which each person devoted their life to protecting the method.
Finally, this book is about love and appreciation for Dr. Buteyko’s fascinating discoveries and the method he created. This love extends into my sincere wish to benefit people on this planet with this life-saving, life-transformative knowledge.
Once, I asked Ludmila Buteyko why her husband died, even though he was healthy. She said something I have never forgotten:
“By that time, he had done everything he could to offer the people of this planet the valuable knowledge that could save many lives, as well as the life of the whole civilization. Unfortunately, his offer was not fully accepted because of people’s reluctance to change, to go beyond the comfort of stereotypical thinking. He respected this choice, but felt that his mission on Earth was complete and therefore he left.”
Sometimes I wonder if now is the right time to receive at least his first discovery: the science and art of peaceful breathing.
This is also a Living Breathing Buteyko Book because it contains my experience of learning to breathe differently throughout the ten years of my life with Thomas — the years this book covers.
Here is the simple truth:
I promise you this book will not be boring.
