What Does “Natural Breathing” Really Look Like?
The BreathMastery Program is more than a set of breathing exercises—it’s a complete lifestyle approach rooted in the principles of Buteyko, designed to restore vitality, resilience, and ease. Sasha Yakovleva, other teachers and global community support people in integrating all the essential elements of this lifestyle, not just what happens during practice sessions, but how you live, move, and breathe every day.
In this video, Sasha shares a powerful story from a local market that illustrates what natural breathing looks like in real life.
Sasha noticed an elderly farmer—well into his 80s—effortlessly lifting heavy bags of potatoes and onions. What stood out wasn’t his strength, but his breathing: silent, invisible, and entirely through the nose, even under physical strain. Sasha was struck by how calm and efficient it was.
Curious, Sasha spoke with him. The farmer explained that he’d recently injured his leg and had been seeing a physical therapist. During the sessions, the therapist instructed him to “inhale as much as possible and breathe more deeply.” Confused, the farmer asked Sasha,
“I’ve never had breathing or health problems in my entire life. Now I’m being told to breathe differently. Should I? Shouldn’t I?”
Sasha’s answer was simple—and profound:
“The most important thing for you is not to listen to anyone telling you how to breathe. Your lifestyle has been natural and healthy your whole life. Your breathing is perfect.”
This moment is a powerful reminder: when we live in a way that supports healthy CO₂ levels, breathing takes care of itself. In that state, we don’t need breathing exercises.
But here’s the reality—most of us are far from that natural baseline. Modern life pulls us away from it, and getting back usually requires guidance, awareness, and consistent support.
That’s where the BreathMastery Program comes in. It serves as a guiding light on the Buteyko journey, offering expert instruction, community support, and accountability. The program helps participants integrate breathing practices and lifestyle adjustments in a way that’s sustainable, aligned, and deeply transformative.
Natural breathing isn’t something to force—it’s something to return to. And you don’t have to do it alone.
